Plettenberg Bay
Originally christened “Bahia Formosa” (“Beautiful Bay”) by early Portuguese explorers, Plettenberg Bay offers miles of sweeping, unspoiled beaches, the dramatic rocky Robberg peninsula jutting into the sea, intriguing lagoons and estuaries, towering indigenous forests and unpolluted rivers and ocean.
With its exceptional climate and beautiful views over the Indian Ocean, the town is one of South Africa’s prime holiday destinations.
Plettenberg Bay has an abundance of attractions, including kilometres of pristine beaches, land- and boat-based whale and dolphin watching, international sporting events, world-class 18-hole championship golf courses, spectacular walks and hikes, village and township experiences.
Further up the Garden Route, nestled in the great forests at the foot of the fabled Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountains, you’ll find the quaint hamlet of Storms River teeming with birdlife; delicate ecosystems within wetlands and lagoons; giant forest trees; and adrenaline-pumping activities such as the world’s highest bungee jump and tree canopy tours.
Adrenalin junkies are spoilt for choice, with activities in the region including horse riding, game viewing, birding, motorcycle excursions, quad biking, adventure boating, sailing and abseiling.
