Mossel Bay
Some people visit Mossel Bay for the beaches, some come for the wildlife, while others come for the history. But everyone stays for its laidback outlook on life.
There’s a lot to do in Mossel Bay – from adventures such as surfing, 4x4 trails, horse riding, deep-sea fishing, sky diving and shark-cage diving, to gentle, contemplative activities like lazing on the beach or whales watching (best between June and October).
To add to its attractions, the town enjoys a mild beach-friendly climate, with more than 300 days of sunshine a year!
Mossel Bay has a long and proud history. Visit the Bartolomeu Dias Museum Complex to get insight into its fascinating past.
Researchers have found evidence of modern human behaviour in the area dating back as far as 165 000 years ago, and the Mossel Bay Archaeology Project (the biggest project of its type in the world) is ongoing.
The relaxed seaside town has all the infrastructure and conveniences of a modern city, thanks in part to being home to South Africa’s smallest commercial harbour, and in part to its vibrant tourism industry.
